PRIDE 2019

I had an idea of what June was going to bring this year but in the end it didn’t turn out as I expected at all. How can I put this … it was Legen … wait for it … Dary! Legendary! If you didn’t get it, let me get things clear for you. Better, let me start from the beginning.

Before coming to Israel this year, I already knew that I will attend the Pride Parade as I had so much fun and I was so impressed the last time. Everything was more or less already planned in terms of equipment and time management, I was determined to be there from the beginning.

The date was fast approaching and I was with my parents in the car. We were returning back home from a torrid day, when I decided to check the news. For a couple of seconds I starred at the IPhone screen, unable to say or do anything, rereading the same words over and over again in my mind. When I finally came to my senses, or at least I thought I did, I started to shout the title of the article. “Neil Patrick Harris is coming to Tel Aviv!!!”

A bit of background will transform this post into an actual dissertation so I will simply tell you that he is one of my favourite actors since I was about 14, 15 years old, when I saw him for the first time in “How I met your mother”. Always wanted to see him never thought it will come true, never. Each day felt like it was on rewind and my patience was close to vanish for good.

Eventually, the day had come and around 9 am we were looking for a place to park our car and walk our way to the city centre were all was about to start. Like last year, we were surrounded by a mass of colour and costumes, singers and dancers and people with makeup that I won’t be able to make in 100 years, really. I was pointing my camera everywhere, dazzled by all that beauty.

From the point we were, the parade was scheduled to make its way to Charles de Clore park, marching along the beach on the promenade with loads of trucks with good music. It begun around 2 pm, when I was already asking myself where do people get their energy from because personally, I was melting faster than an ice cream left on the sidewalk. On top of that I was constantly wondering were Neil was, checking his Twitter and Instagram, hoping to find a clue.

Out of nowhere a group of people started to scream and when I looked I immediately recognised his husband, David Burtka. Let the games begin! In my sort of running pace, I managed to get closer and closer until the point I was next to him, only Neil was higher on the truck. Trust me, it didn’t matter. From that moment, my soul had reached Nirvana. He started to talk with us, joke and take photos with the peers around him on the truck. He was exactly like I imagined.

In all that madness with people shouting his name, humming songs from ‘How I met your mother’ and trying to reach him for autographs, the trucks began moving and the entire crowd with them. Personally I was trying to make sure my cameras were surviving by keeping them out of reach but still photographing with the Canon and recording with the Gopro.

I think the most precious moment from that day happened when I was literally struggling to breathe, still hoping to get that good shot that had been stuck on my mind. This is because Neil noticed it as I was still pretty close, and he looked exactly at me, dancing, making my dream come true for the second time. I saw all of this through the viewfinder and I felt like jumping and screaming but there was no room for that, only for a big smile and a wave, which he returned.

250.000 people came to Tel Aviv to be part of the parade and I was lucky enough to be one of them again. You already guessed that I will be there again next year, right? I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world.

I also have to mention in case you didn’t know that #NeilPatrickHarris was named the International Ambassador of Tel Aviv’s Pride Parade, the reason for which he took part for the first time in this beautiful celebration. True story!

Inca de anul trecut aveam o idee formata in ceea ce priveste luna iulie a acestui an, insa in cele din urma s-a dovedit ca m-am inselat amarnic. Cum sa va spun eu, a fost ceva … Legendar!

Cand in cele din urma mi-am revenit, sau cel putin asa credeam eu, am inceput sa tip: Neil Patrick Harris vine in Tel Aviv!

Daca incep sa va vorbesc despre asta, as transforma articolul intr-o adevarata lucrare de dizertatie. How I met your mother.

Nu as rata-o penru nimic in lume!
