Chanel’s Library- Themed Couture Show

Yesterday, Chanel transformed Paris’s Grand Palais into a paradise for book lovers for its Autumn/Winter 2019 Couture Show. The models were surrounded by works of Plato, Dante, Cervantes and Montaigne, having Mademoiselle Chanel’s library at her 31 Rue Cambon apartment as a reference.

Virginie Viard started her career as assistant of costume designer Dominique Borg and later in 1987 she joined Chanel where she took care of embroidery. Now she was appointed artistic director of Chanel fashion house in Paris, following the death of Karl Lagerfeld and this is her first couture collection for Chanel.

“I dreamt about a woman with nonchalant elegance and a fluid and free silhouette; everything I like about the Chanel allure,”

Virginie Viard

The Collection

More feminine than the previous ones, this collection shows us flat black loafers, low ponytails and large specs. Yes, specs are back! The outfits on the catwalk showed us elegance without the use of accessories, those being replaced by historical touches. Coco Chanel was a fan of Flaubert and there were multiple pieces on the catwalk that would certainly suit Madame Bovary’s feminine and enigmatic character.

Those are a couple of my favourite outfits:

What do you think?
